When I first started out, I knew nothing about posing. Through the years, I have taken courses, watched tutorials, and attended seminars on lighting, posing, and such. After 5 years of being a photographer, I have realized how easy posing can be. It really really can be! I think many of us photographers stress out because we don't want our clients to feel awkward or put them in an unflattering pose AND we should know better than to do that. That is where as a photographer educating yourself is crucial.
Just some words of wisdom from what I have learned, posing does not have to be rocket science. If you try a pose out with a client and it doesn't look right, heck, just do something else. Seriously! Don't feel embarrassed, don't be shy, BE YOURSELF!! Interact with your client!!! Communicate with them!!! Show them how they should be posing! HELP THEM! The last thing a client wants to do is stand there and feel like they look silly. You are the expert, teach them...show them...make the feel confident while you have fun posing them!
Take a look at the past two senior sessions I have done with Samantha and Abby. Simple posing with small changes go a long long way. You can literally put your subject in one space and try different variations of a pose and move around them to create many different looks. Happy Posing!
