Child Abuse is REAL. | Columbia City IN, Childrens Photographer

This is a topic that could sting a little, and probably pull at your heart strings if you were or know someone who was abused as a child. Heck, even if you don't know someone who was abused or experienced it yourself, what you are about to see is still captivating in a sense that ABUSE is real, the emotions that surround child abuse are very  REAL.  This is a real topic folks, and as a mother and human being, my heart aches for those children experiencing abuse.

My dear friend Kristen, from KML Creatives, has been working on a series of images as apersonal project that pinpoints the many emotions a child may feel when faced with abuse.  I don't know Kristen personally, but we are "sisters" and friends through the photography community. This lady has a huge huge heart and she is one flipping good artist. These images of hers are simply amazing to say the least. {Many of you who follow me may notice her name because I use many of her overlays, textures and actions.... which rock by the way.}

After seeing some images from her personal project I wanted to share them right away. Luckily, she agreed to let me share with you all! Here are a few words from Kristen herself about her project and the images.

Healing Reflection

Healing Reflection

Kristen (KML Creatives) : "I've wanted to so this series for a very long time. It has taken me quite awhile to get the courage up to do it. It's not pretty and it's painful. I was abused as a child. I don't feel sorry for myself about it, I don't use it as an excuse for making bad choices. It's just a fact. I spent years in counseling and was given the tools to overcome, to rise above, to become stronger and be the best me I can be. It wasn't until I had children that those painful memories began to surface again. It was a fear for my own children. I never wanted them to have to endure the pain, guilt or shame that comes with being abused. I wanted to do something, anything to speak out, to break the silence of abuse."

 "There is so much happening out there and people are afraid to speak out, to stand up and they turn their back on it. I will not be a party that. I am just one person and I know there is not a whole lot I do by myself, but I won't turn a blind eye to it. I'm an artist. I'm a survivor. I'm a mom."

No Escape

No Escape

"I knew I could use my skills, my story and with the help of my children, combine it all together to create a visual message. I got over my fear of what others would think. I got over my fear of airing the dirty laundry. I let all those skeletons come crashing down out of the closet and I began my journey. "

"My daughter is my main model. She is 8, she is a beautiful little soul, she is innocent, hopeful, creative, smart and one of the most caring individuals I have ever known. She knows the premise of the pieces, but with her innocence still in tack, it's very hard for her to wrap her beautiful head around it all and I am ok with that.  She is what inspires the message of hope and innocence in every piece."

"While what the images represent may not be pretty, I want the images themselves to not be offensive, yet strong enough to evoke emotion. I feel if I can help just one person open their heart, or one person to let their own skeletons out of the closet, then I reached my goal. My goal with each image is to show the very ugly side of abuse along with the hope that children feel. They all have hope, it may be buried, but it is one thing that abusers can never take away from their victims. Hope and the will to survive, it is something that can not be stripped away."
